Whitby Distillery Van Livery Combines Craft Detail with Standout Visibility

A long-standing relationship between SD Signs and Whitby Distillery has resulted in a distinctive new Metamark 7 Series vehicle livery. The vehicle supports local deliveries, and strengthens a local brand’s presence across the town.

Challenge
Whitby Distillery required a new livery for a recently acquired Volkswagen I-Buzz, used primarily for local deliveries. While functional in purpose, the vehicle also needed to operate as a high-impact branding tool in a busy tourist destination. The design concept was already in place, supplied via a collaborative route, but it required careful adaptation to suit the vehicle’s form and ensure a high quality fit and finish. The brief called for precision, durability and visual consistency, particularly given the intricate nature of the design.

Solution
SD Signs refined the supplied design, creating accurate outlines and adjusting the layout to work effectively across the vehicle’s panels. A cut-and-applied approach was selected, using Metamark 7 Series coloured vinyl in gold contrasting with dark base vehicle colour. Although an alternative material had initially been considered, M7 Series was specified for its superior durability and finish. The detailed graphics required careful cutting and weeding, all completed in-house using SD Signs’ Roland plotter. This integrated workflow allowed full control over production quality, from artwork preparation through to final, flawless application.

Result
The completed vehicle delivers a strong visual presence on the streets of Whitby, combining sharp detailing with a premium aesthetic aligned to the popular distillery’s brand. Positioned in a high-footfall, tourism-driven environment, the van functions effectively as a stand-out mobile advertisement as well as a hard-working delivery
vehicle. The customer response was very positive, and the vehicle has already been seen in prominent local settings, reinforcing brand visibility. The project also underlines the value of material choice and experienced application in achieving durable, high-impact results for everyday commercial use.
