When Quality Counts
A major commercial property owner required a complete signage refresh across a vast UK-wide estate. With signs spanning multiple locations, the project demanded a coordinated approach capable of delivering consistency, durability and minimal disruption at scale, while maintaining operational continuity for tenants throughout the programme.
Challenge
Northern Trust’s rebrand required the replacement of more than 1,000 signage assets, including entrance totems, directional systems, plate-and-post signage and tenant identification panels. The estate featured a mix of legacy signage from different eras, some recently installed and others decades old, all requiring detailed survey, documentation and classification. Each element then needed to be integrated into a carefully phased rollout programme designed to minimise disruption across active commercial sites. The scale and geographic spread of the project placed significant demands on project management, installation consistency and material performance, with uniformity of finish a critical requirement across the entire estate.
Solution
Poppy Signs delivered a fully managed programme, combining survey, design, manufacture and installation into a single coordinated workflow. Established internal systems ensured close alignment between teams, with real-time visibility across all project stages and consistent standards maintained by distributed installation crews working across multiple locations. Material specification focused on reliability, consistency and long-term performance. Metamark MD5 digital media, paired with MG-703 satin laminate and produced on HP Latex technology, was selected to deliver the required visual finish alongside together with colour fidelity and consistency. The durability expected of long-term estate signage was assured. “As projects scale, consistency becomes critical,” says Dave McDonald, founder of Poppy Signs. “Using Metamark gives us dependable performance and removes the risk of variation across multiple sites, which is essential on programmes of this size.”
Result
The programme was delivered on schedule, with minimal disruption to tenants and site operations. The result is a cohesive, modern signage system that reflects Northern Trust’s updated brand identity consistently across its entire portfolio. The use of proven materials ensured a uniform finish and dependable long-term performance, supporting the client’s investment in estate-wide branding. This project demonstrates the value of a structured, scalable approach to signage delivery, where material reliability, disciplined workflows and coordinated installation combine to achieve high-quality, repeatable results at scale.
