Fusion Surfaces Transforms 213 Student Bedrooms in Edinburgh Using Metamark MiA™ Film
Challenge
A national student accommodation provider needed to refresh over 200 bedrooms within a tight summer turnaround. Existing red wall panels and wardrobe doors no longer aligned with the updated interior design, but fully replacing them would have introduced significant cost, waste and disruption. The project required a solution that could modernise the space efficiently while keeping rooms operational and ready for incoming students.
Solution
Fusion proposed the use of Metamark’s MiA™ Interior Architectural film as a faster, more sustainable alternative to replacement. A trial room was completed to demonstrate the finish, durability and overall look in a live environment, giving the client confidence in the approach. Following approval, the MiA™ M-AF-M02 Clay Soft Matt finish from the MiA range was selected to align with the refreshed design scheme. Installation was then carried out across all 213 bedrooms over a three-week period, with more than 1,200 metres of film applied to wardrobes and wall panels. Careful surface preparation ensured strong adhesion and long-term performance, while coordination with other contractors kept the wider refurbishment programme on track.
Result
The project was completed on time, with minimal disruption and significantly reduced waste due to the retention of existing joinery. The updated finishes created brighter, more balanced interiors, delivering a modern and welcoming environment for students returning after the summer. The use of MiA Architectural film enabled a consistent, high-quality finish across all rooms, while achieving notable cost savings compared to full replacement. This project highlights the effectiveness of architectural film as a scalable solution for large interior refurbishment programmes where time, budget and sustainability are key considerations.
