Vehicle wraps are possessed of the potential to confer personality on the vehicles to which they are applied and range from something that wouldn’t attract a second glance, to notable head-turners. Caerphilly based Print Sauce has recently released into the wild a promotional wrap that raises the head-turning quotient by an order of magnitude and that demonstrates remarkable technical merit. It’s a wrap that fully capitalises on the potential of the medium and is deserving of its celebrity status.

The client was Braces, the long established and highly regarded bakery brand. Braces had created what amounts to a new product category in the bakery market - a protein rich bread. Reflecting the health benefits embodied in its new product, Braces engaged former Welsh Rugby captain, Sam Warburton to lend the product both his personal endorsement, and his name. So was born Sam’s Sports Active - a protein rich bread sat there in white space in a category all its own. A line extension with the same high protein benefit, this time in the form of Welsh Cakes was also launched.

Sam Warburton’s considerable presence, charisma and celebrity doesn’t really need much in the way of support and his stellar fitness brilliantly halos the benefits of the bread that bears his name. Whether needed or not, Sam’s efforts in launching the product were backed up by a wonderfully inventive van wrap that sits at the top of its game too. It was manufactured to a strictly enforced design, and in great secrecy, by Gary Bagstaff and the team at Caerphilly based Print Sauce.

This is a very notable wrap.

The base vehicle is a Volkswagen ‘camper,’ a type that’s no stranger to wraps and that enjoys true cult status among a passionate and totally dedicated legion of followers. This particular vehicle though was ‘enhanced’ with the addition of mouldings contrived to change the look of the vehicle, while retaining its underlying personality.

The mouldings are designed to make the van assume the broad shape of a risen and baked loaf of bread in its wrapper. The roof of the vehicle is the site of most of the convoluted detail and is replete with apparently randomised bulges, creases and other such details as might be expected in a scaled up replica of a loaf. Around the back of the vehicle, a tag closure, again at scale, pays its homage to the product’s packaging.

What presented itself to the team at Print Sauce was the base vehicle with its moulding fitted. The vehicle was delivered under covers on a low-loader so as to protect it and respect the client’s need for confidentiality. The job that Print Sauce then had to do was wrap the abstract shaped vehicle in a print reflecting the product and its packaging.

The Print Sauce team turned to Metamark and its MD-X wrapping film and MetaGuard mechanically matched laminate to for the job. The wrap was among the most challenging that the team had undertaken and allowed practically zero wriggle room in terms of either departures from the needed colour fidelity or the actually precision of the fit. Considerable elongation was needed to cover the extreme moulding detail and to resolve the need to convey the correct impression. Team and material succeeded brilliantly.

Print Sauce is a very capable and highly respected signs and graphic producers that has delivered some very notable projects to a demanding clientele. The Braces wrap is a very big feature in the company’s CV. It’s technically accomplished, very creative and highly impactful. It was a major project in terms of logistics and management too. The vehicle left the premises, as it had arrived, in conditions of total secrecy and under cover until it went to meet its public.
