Brighton based Recreative Signs has just released an outstanding vehicle livery. It’s going to do a great job for its owner and it’s a real testament to the quality of work that Recreative undertakes for its clientele…

‘Always on.’ That’s the world we live in today. If you operate a signs and graphics business and you’re serious about it to the extent that Google knows about you, that information, and the ability to have it found when potential customers come looking, is out there 24/7 and sits like a permanently baited hook. Someone types something into Google and Google obliges them in milliseconds with information that leads to your door.

Googling though is something that people can go anywhere these days and at odd ends of the clock if they choose. If it’s happening in what you might regard as down time, the searcher who reaches out might not be expecting a response right there and then. When it’s given though, it gets attention.

That was pretty much how Richard Earley met with one of his most recent clients. Very happy with the prompt response he got, the client got Richard and the team from Recreative Signs hooked up with a designer friend of his acquaintance to discuss a vehicle livery. It was for a dog grooming business.

The designer had proposed a design centred around a stylised dog’s head involving the type that spelled out the business’s name. Very creative and, thanks to the fact it was designed on a template recognising the vehicle’s lines and boundaries, it sat pretty well.

Vehicles of course have two sides though and some detailed and expert intervention was needed on Recreative Signs’ part to get the livery to work on both of the vehicle’s flanks. There were details to attend to as well. Richard prescribed a slight reduction in size overall to avoid joins on the van’s blank side and to stop detail tumbling round the back and over the roof. Slight repositioning helped detail avoid falling into door runners and any chance of the dog’s simplified whiskers getting lost in panel gaps. It worked.

The livery was required in white to sit on the dark charcoal vehicle but Richard, Metamark 7 Series Swatch in hand, suggested a gentler contrast and found it in Light Grey 7 Series. All were agreed, the livery was cut and then meticulously applied.

The result is a relative rarity in the day and age of digital print. It’s what you might choose to call an ‘old school’ work being nothing but coloured vinyl. That doesn’t matter at all. The design, the application and the impact overall transcend any epoch in signmaking’s career and progress. It is quite simply an outstanding and beautiful piece of work. It’s a credit to everyone who has their fingerprints on it. Especially Recreative Signs.

Anyone skilled in the art will look at the Rex livery and see it for the very expert job it is. Lay eyes will see it and love it and perhaps not even know why. From the owner’s perspective, it’ll be delivering memorable impressions by the thousands and will, no doubt, be bringing work to the business.
