How Metamark MiA helped a busy leisure destination remediate and transform its customer facilities in record time with minimal disruption…

The Challenge

Dubai is a popular destination for those seeking sun and recreation and home to some of the most iconic golf courses in world. Among them, The Emirates Golf Club attracts the world’s best with its Dubai Desert Classic with past winners including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

The Emirates Club has three challenging golf courses and is one of the few venues in the world that offers night-golf, with a full course floodlighting until one-am. It’s a world-class resort with gyms, restaurants and spa facilities. The club has four changing rooms, two male and two female, with over seven hundred lockers available. With use and over time, preservative oils in sunscreens used by the club’s customers, and countless cleaning interventions, have caused permanent and unsightly damage to the dark maple locker doors and surrounds.

With a large membership base paying annual subscriptions, and practically round-the-clock activity thanks to the popularity of night-golf, closing the changing rooms and stripping out existing lockers for replacement, was not considered practical. Another solution was sought.

The Solution and Process

Metamark successfully introduced the concept of MiA™ to Dubai Golf which operates the Emirates Golf Club. MiA is a recently introduced range of architectural films which is used to transform interior infrastructure so avoiding disruption and considerable cost.

Metamark scoped the project with its client and after initial consultation two films from the available range were chosen - Washed Ash, a light textured colour, and Drift Oak, a darker, contrasting counterpoint. The client elected to have locker numbers, and its logo printed on the MiA film which is receptive to digital printing techniques.

Metamark introduced one of its approved installation partners, Wrap Zone AE. The company provided a quote TO supply, print and install the MiA film together with a schedule of works, all of which were agreed with the client. Work began soon after.

The Result

In ten days, all the changing rooms’ lockers were transformed, lifting the whole space into a modern, light and luxurious environment for the club’s membership which fully reflected the quality and class of the venue. During the process, no changing room was closed, and members were able to continue using the space without inconvenience. There were no skips full of trade waste, and all trim waste was removed from site as it was generated keeping the environment clean and safe.

By giving the existing infrastructure, a second life, the needs of the environment were respected and the MiA installation was delivered with a full support ongoing and a 10 year warranty. The installation is appropriately fire-rated too.

The project cost overall was less than a tenth of the sum replacement would have required and its delivery many times faster.
