Absolute Wraps creates an object of desire…

‘People buy things for reasons that they alone choose,’ or so the old adage says. On that basis, it could be argued that nobody buys a Rolex to tell the time, or a pair of Louboutin shoes just to walk in. They’re object of desire and there are many more. 

The list of objects of desire is long and very varied. Nobody would argue though that cars belong on that list and that Porsche cars have earned a position. Most successful marque of all time in racing circles. Brilliant examples of leading edge engineering. Drop-dead gorgeous. Porsche ticks all those boxes and many more. 

Chris Griggs, MD of St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) based Absolute Wraps has a Porsche and he bought it for all the reasons on the Porsche tick-list and a few personal ones that he alone chose. It’s a member of the 911 range and it’s not something that Chris would ever contemplate selling. 

Showering a Porsche with love and attention has an alter-ego - expense. If you go at it with real intent, the numbers can be eye-watering. The car won’t be shy when it comes to telling an owner what it needs either. A little ticking noise that needs attention. The simmering thought that a set of wheels that fill the arches just a little better would look great. A few pock-marks in the paint courtesy of the local starling population that need fixing. 

Chris’s car told him that its paint needed attention and so he decided, given his experience and his knowledge, to wrap it. But in what? Again for reasons he chose, Chris elected to go for a colour-flip material, something that looks as though it’s morphing from one colour to another depending upon the viewing angle and prevailing light.

The material arrived but not coincident with the time needed to do the wrap so Chris put it on the shelf and time passed while he tried to book an appointment with himself. 

Meantime, Metamark’s Automotive Film team dropped into Absolute Wraps and had a chat. They left Chris with information about Metamark’s newest Automotive Paint Protection Films and a rather attractive and recently introduced swatch containing samples of Metamark’s New Premium Cast Colour-Change Wrapping Film - MetaCast® MCX.

MCX is an unashamedly premium product from Metamark that ticks all the top-trumps boxes in terms of specification, and a few that the game doesn’t usually consider - in particular, colour. In terms of the numbers, the swatch doesn’t have that many. The colours themselves though tell a very different story. They’re inspired by the OEM paint finishes of the world’s most desirable vehicles. That’s a story that any enthusiast will instantly ‘get.’

Colour on this occasion spoke to Chris. Having leafed though the MetaCast® MCX Swatch, his eye alighted on one colour in particular. In that instant Chris knew, he didn’t, “want his Porsche to look like a TVR,” and so the colour-flip was shelved. He ordered the MCX from Metamark and carved out the time for the wrap.

The job went without a hitch and you don’t need to be a Porsche enthusiast to conclude that the wrapped car looks sensational in its new colour-change covering. 

Chis has lavished a lot on his car. Time. Money. Love. Care. You name it. Thanks to his decision to go the MCX route, the car now looks like a very proper pairing of a timeless design with a thoughtfully formulated contemporary paint colour. Chris is clear on the subject, he’ll never sell the Porsche. For reasons he chooses, he’ll keep it forever.
