Acorn Creative is based in Evesham and that puts it within easy reach of some of the best parts of the country’s canal network. The canals have enjoyed an amazing resurgence since freight took to the rails and, latterly, the roads, and now the leisure industry the network fuels does amazing things for tourism and the economies where the canals pass.

Canal boats ply the waterways and, these days, pop up in an eclectic mix of styles. There’s the very traditional with their, familiar colours and sign written names and embellishments and, at the other end of a considerable spectrum, there’s a emergent school that’s anything but old-school.

Acorn Creative was approached by the owner of a boat that belongs to one of the latter trains of thought. The vessel itself was an exemplar of a modern tastes and directions that had left the greens reds and blacks anchoring design in the past, and which had set off boldly in pursuit of a very contemporary palette. The boat answered to the name “Independence ,” but didn’t yet wear its name anywhere on its flanks. The owner wanted the name rendered in a far from traditional font and in a here-and-now shade of purple reflecting contemporary colour choice.

The team at Acorn Creative prescribed a cut-and-applied lettering job and surveyed the boat to see about matching the modern shade of purple. It’s no coincidence that they found exactly what was wanted in the new Metamark 7 Series Colour Swatch. The new range of colours the swatch offers is based on considerable research into contemporary colour preferences. The swatch aligns in precise terms to today’s tastes and those same paths intersect with paint and other finishes - we have a match!

Once the job had been measured up, it was a relatively simple matter for the Acorn Creative team to cut the lettering required, weed it and transport it to site for application. Job done. In situ the whole effect works brilliantly. The purple punches out of the background field of colour and the boat looks the decidedly modern water-goer she is. The 7 Series material is built to endure anything the roads, wind and weather can launch its way. Moving along a quite canal at four MPH shouldn’t exercise it too much.

It’s a super job that Acorn Creative has delivered and a perfect match both for the application’s needs and the customer’s tastes.
