Egg-On Legs Design turns on the lights for a successful, Sheffield based Electrical Contractor…

Electricom Systems was founded in Sheffield in 2002 and has grown steadily, becoming a leading contractor in the Electrical Engineering Industry. The company has nationwide reach and its clients include enterprises from the health, education and commercial buildings sectors to name but few. Electricom undertakes projects of any size, offering its clientele a turnkey solution from consultancy through design, to installation and maintenance.

When Electricom Systems recently opened new premises in Sheffield, its founder didn’t have to think too hard about where he’d go to get signage for the company’s new home. Having gone to school with Sheffield based Egg-On-Legs’ MD, Marc Ward, it was a simple case of picking up the phone and talking through what was needed.

On this occasion, the Egg-On-Legs team was asked to come up with an illuminated sign to be mounted to the upper reaches of the gable-end of Electricom’s new industrial unit. Egg-On-Legs was no stranger to Electricom’s design needs or its logo logo having provisioned livery graphics for many of the company’s vehicles. 

What the Egg-On-Legs team prescribed, manufactured and installed is quite a piece of work. As a sign it functions brilliantly being bright and very colourful. The construction too has some novelty and a lot of technical merit.

The basic construction comprises an ACM fabricated tray wrapped with MG-703 Satin Laminated printed Metamark MD5 digital media. The printed element of the design is rendered in muted colours and at a scale that dominates the fabricated pan. The balance of the sign involves 20mm thick solid opal acrylic push-through lettering backlit with an array of LEDs. The top faces of the logo and lettering elements are capped with Metamark MT coloured translucent vinyl. 

The whole ensemble radiates quality and is noticeable day and night. The acrylic elements of the sign emit coloured light from the faces thanks to the MT caps, and white from the return edges. This not only provides a dramatic contrasting counterpoint, it bathes the pan in soft white light too and that works well with the print’s satin finish.

Egg-On-Legs’ work is much in evidence all over Sheffield and the surrounds and the company has build something of a speciality for itself with salons in and around the city. Electricom casts the company in a much wider role though. One look tells you that Egg-On-Legs is an accomplished and very capable signage generalist that can promote and brighten up any business.
