Venture Signs scores points for simplicity and quality…

The Original Cake Co. is owned and operated by two gifted bakers who’ve combined their obvious talents to grow a business whose products can only be described as irresistible. The company is based in Lincoln and it produces a range of handmade cakes that win awards, delight the senses, and keep customers returning for more. 

“Artisan” is a word that’s a little over-exercised these days and thrown around to describe things that don’t wholly deserve such an association. In the case of The Original Cake Co., it’s more than appropriate though. Every little detail is just right. From the recipes, through to the product and even the company’s website; the whole ensemble works to halo the company’s growing brand.

Another company in Lincoln that’s earned a reputation for getting the details right is Venture Signs. Keith and Pete, who run the show are artisans too. They work with materials and technologies that are available to anyone but add their own nuance to deliver signs that radiate quality, and again, keep customers returning.

When The Original Cake Co. found itself in need of signage having opened new premises, it was Venture Signs that got the call. The company wanted a sign of some substance for its internal reception area and something durable and legible for the building’s exterior to make the place the company’s own. Venture Signs’ customer had its logo sorted so it was largely an exercise in quality manufacturing and installation for the Venture Signs’ team.

Pulling off ‘less is more’ is something of a finely balanced act. If it’s taken to extremes it crosses the line and tests the contention that ‘nothing is everything.’ Venture Signs work though is, largely though sensitive use of materials, right on target. It’s simply unembellished and all the better for it in the case of The Original Cake Co. and its assets.

The reception area was treated to an arrangement of wall-mounted acrylic lettering, 5mm thick, mounted on stand-offs that anchor the elements visually with just the right balance of shadow. The arrangement’s layout is millimetre perfect and it radiates class and quality while counterpointing its surroundings.

The exterior signage comprises a dimensional pan fabricated from cut, folded and welded aluminium with no raw edges visible to detract from the quality on display in Venture Signs’ work. The pan is wrapped in printed and laminated Metamark MD5 and it’s a masterful demonstration of technique. The printing too says much about the technical merit of the job. No artefacts here.

This isn’t the first time that Venture Signs has hit the spot with signs that score points for simplicity and quality. With its work in demand locally and further afield, it’s not likely to be the last time, either.
